You don’t need be an expert to get a great kayak adventure. Sarapiqui Outdoor Center has professional instructors certified by American Canoe Association (ACA) and the National Learning Institute (INA) ready to give you a unique experience.
At the novice clinic you will improve your kayak skills in a safe and wonderful adventure created by our professionals.
In the one day clinic you will learn the basics like:
Choosing proper equipment and clothing. Carrying a kayak. Entering and exiting a kayak. Proper body position. Self rescue. River safety.
The two days clinic focuses on:
Essential flatwater strokes forward, swept, gladding, bowl and stern draw, braces and maneuvers. Edging the kayak. Eddy turns, peel outs and ferries. River reading and identifying hazards. River running.
The three days clinic spends more time on:
Eddy turns, peel outs and ferries. Wave surfing. Depending on the group, we may also introduce rolling.
The five days clinic gives you more practice time and by the end of the week, students can often:
Running Class II rapids with confidence and finesse. Playing on Class II surf waves and holes with confidence. Rolling. Scouting and running Class III rapids.
Each day includes:
Kayak, safety equipment, INA and ACA instructor, barbecue lunch, transportation from SOC to the paddling sites, and tropical coconut cocktail.
THIS TOUR ALSO INCLUDES A SELF GUIDED BOTANICAL TOUR!
Tour is available all year round. Tour starts at 08:30AM. Tour duration is 8 Hours.
ALL TOURS REQUIRE A MINIMUM OF 2 PEOPLE TO START. IF THE REQUIREMENT IS NOT MET, THERE WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF 50% OF THE TOUR PRICE FOR TOUR TO OPERATE.
We recommend bringing:
• Swimsuit and/or shorts.
• Sun cream.
• String or strap to secure your glasses.
• Short or long pants (for sun protection only). No jeans.
• Water shoes or sandals with ankle straps. No flip flops.
• Light rain jacket and/or polypropylene, wool shirts for cool or rainy days. Cotton T-shirts for sunny days only (they make you colder when wet).
